CJ, another thing I realized...
I, just as much as you, do not want to create anything "forgettable." However, the fact remains that we have a $5000 budget and we won't be able to have extravagance in every one of our details. Even if we did every little detail completely bizarre and alternative, people would still forget. In light of that, if we can't make something unforgettable, I still want to make it meaningful, at least to us. It's all of the meaningful things and creative details that result in an unforgettable wedding.
It was really hard for me to give up the idea of serving an unforgettable gourmet meal, but the cost to realize that dream just wasn't worth it. I thought too, about alternative options... having the Thai restaurant cater it or something, but then I realized that although the idea was fun, I just wanted to stand out from a crowd of boring weddings, and most people wouldn't like the Thai food. The dessert buffet will be different and fun, but ultimately I don't care if people remember it forever or not.
The same goes for the invites: let's be unique and creative, but I don't want to make something completely out there just because we don't have enough money for the unforgettably nice.
